THE WALK APPLIED BIBLICAL COUNSELING MODEL, pt 2: THE SIN NATURE, IDOLATRY, AND HUMAN BEHAVIOR

Updated: Jun 7, 2022

(This blog is the second installment in a series. This blog series introduces the Walk Applied Biblical Counseling Model, which is fully explored in the book: "The Walk Applied: Living the New Creation Life as a Citizen of God's Kingdom in a Secular World.")

THE SIN NATURE, IDOLATRY, AND THE RELATIONSHIP TO HUMAN BEHAVIOR

In the first article of this series (click here), we discussed the consequences of the Fall and the components of the sin nature (The Natural Worldview System). In this installment, we deepen our discussion of the sin nature, and it's relationship to human behavior. Below are graphical representations summing up the sin nature. In future installments, we will explain how the sin nature works.

The Walk Applied model posits that the sin nature is comprised of two "systems" of idolatry: Rebellion Idolatry and Need Idolatry. These will be explored in depth as we proceed through the series. For now, we will examine an overview of how the Sin Nature works.

When Adam and Eve fell, the sin nature was revealed. Rebellion Idolatry is comprised of the idols that were revealed due to their disobedience. Need Idolatry idols arose after the couple was ejected from the garden

Rebellion Idolatry and Need Idolatry are comprised of six idols each:

Rebellion Idolatry is undergirded by Pride, and is the foundation of the other five idols.

This graphic explains how Rebellion Idolatry works in our lives. This graphic will be simplified and enlarged in subsequent installments for easier reading. In addition, each idol will be treated separately.

Need Idolatry is comprised of the six idols that were revealed after Adam and Eve were ejected from the garden. This graphic explains how Need Idolatry works in our lives. We reiterate That the graphic will be simplified and enlarged in subsequent installments for easier reading. In addition, each idol will be treated separately.
